Artist and curator Jon Ippolito has a typically prescient, well-documented, clearly written, and pressing post to nettime about the strategies - Machiavelian and simply "practical - that may lead to a radical re-formation of the Internet. And it's not for the better.

ISEA2006 Symposium and ZeroOne San Jose: A Global Festival of Art on the Edge
It's up! A temporary website for the ISEA2006 Symposium - held in conjunction with the first biennial ZeroOne San Jose Global Festival of Art on the Edge - is now online at http://isea2006.sjsu.edu.

One reason to check it out is the Request for Qualifications for an artist residency at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport.
The City of San Jose Public Art Program, in collaboration with the San Jose Airport Department is pleased to announce an artist residency program as part of the ISEA2006 Symposium and ZeroOne San Jose: A Global Festival of Art on the Edge being held in August 2006. The outcome of the residency is to create a project that activates the Airport as a gateway to the community--local, global, and festival. The primary presentation of this residency project will be on the San Jose International Airport property.
The deadline is March 1, with an artist chosen in May. One of the interesting aspects of this residency is that it's not your typical "airport art" commission - neon tubes along a moving escalator, say. The San Jose City Council recently approved a Public Art master plan for the airport, which calls for it to be a unique platform for art and technology projects - which means remarkable access to the airport facilities.

The residency program is just one aspect of the ISEA2006 Symposium. More calls for projects will be coming at the end of February. Mark your calendar now for August 5 - 13, 2006.
