Film noir mixes with a sprinkle of Las Vegas in Annette WeintraubÕs ÒPedestrianÓ world. While GIF animations and scrolling text in Java code take their time to load, the cumulative effect is worth the wait. Her text, often about words as seen in public spaces, are poetic meditations that need to be read more than once. She gives the viewer that opportunity as the scrolling text automatically repeats. WeintraubÕs contemplation of every day objects transcends utility and delves into a spiritual realm exploring the power of personal and collective symbols. Visually, words and logos, representing objects, layer themselves on the WeintraubÕs palette of pixels. Working effectively with the innate quality of viewing images on a CRT, Weintraub creates a feeling like being within a cathedral of stained glass windows. The sacred and profane mix within urban desires transilluminated from the blank black matrix of a monitor.
